  1. Houseworx is the name under which I have chosen to pursue my renovation business. "House" because I only do houses, "works" because we do a lot of work on them - these are no quick "flips" - and "X" because I want all my projects to have an X factor - something different, something unexpected. I rejected Homeworx because I create houses - only the people who live in them create homes.

Who the heck are you, anyway, you ask? Well, I pioneered renovations in the 2000 block of Vinton in the early '80s and did one on Carr that was featured in the Commercial Appeal. I also did four for myself in Annesdale Park and Central Gardens. When interest rates hit 18% I decided I needed a new career! So I went to law school and practiced for 25 years until "retiring" to devote full time to renovating. At different times I have served in leadership positions with the Annesdale Park Association, Downtown Neighborhood Association, been a member of Memphis Heritage all the way back to the effort to save the Hill Mansion and am now on the Board, served on the citizen committee that worked on Memphis' Historic Preservation Plan, served on the DMC Design Review Board, and generally support preservation and revitalization of Memphis' vintage housing stock. I'm renovating again primarily because I love doing it; I hope I can make enough money to justify the time, effort, and investment that goes into it. And aches, pains, and bloodshed. :-)

Since then I have done frame Victorian cottages in Central Gardens, Lenox, and Cooper Young, bungalows in Lenox,Evergreen, and Cooper Young, a European-style cottage w/ Craftsman influence in Central Gardens, and a vernacular w/ neoclassical porch on Washington.
